Moderately Adjusted

In movies, there is usually the one crucial, pivoting point where the lead character has this sudden realization of what is important. The music swells, doves fly, you get it. My life had a pivoting week back in 2014. The Lost Week, as I like to call it. It was far from glamorous; it was raw and eye-opening. The Lost Week is a conversation for another day, as we are just getting to know each other.

I hit thirty this year. I like to think that, most days, I am now moderately adjusted to handle what life throws at me. Sometimes it’s a parenting challenge, sometimes a relationship challenge, sometimes I feel pretty as heck and want to post a selfie to the world because I am a confident woman, sometimes I feel like a crusty goblin and I want to huddle under my comforter while you throw snacks and coffee at me.  Whatever my situation is, I am so much better equipped to handle it now than I would have ten years ago.

Ten years ago, I was a mess. I wasn’t okay for a long time and as I’ve matured, I’ve learned to accept that. I’ve learned that, yes, life sucks a lot sometimes. It’s never fair. The universe is a terrible place. But you know what? I know that now. And I have decided to just let those things go. I never took chances because of the “what ifs” and I realize now, that things would have probably turned out fine. Getting rejected is fine. Failing is fine. It’s fine only as long as you take it in as an experience and you gain something positive from it. Maybe it’s just gaining the knowledge that you don’t want to do it again… but that’s something, right?

I’m not going to sit here and tell you every day is a blessing and the sun is always shining. You know why? Because some days are just hard. Some days will be cloudy. I choose to remind myself to accept this fact and carry on. I hope I can help you through that as well.

So, yeah, I’d say I’m moderately adjusted.
